Tucked amongst the gum trees along Tasmania’s picturesque Great Eastern Drive sits a place that feels unlike anywhere else - The Shop in the Bush.

Originally established in 1982 as The Georges Bay Trading Company, the shop was founded by Margaret and Allan, a hardworking husband-and-wife team who built the business from the ground up in the Tasmanian bush. Fueled in those early days by little more than toast, mutton bird oil, and strong black tea, they created a unique destination that welcomed visitors from across Tasmania and beyond. Over time, they became a much-loved couple and a familiar part of the East Coast community.

In 2013, when Margaret and Allan retired, their son-in-law Ben took over the business, continuing the story they began while preserving the character and charm that made the shop so special.

Today, The Shop in the Bush specialises in vintage, antique and vintage style jewellery, antiques, collectable books, and curious treasures. Our space is an eclectic blend of rustic Australian bush and dazzling antiquities, where every piece has been carefully chosen for its beauty, history, and story.

Sustainability is at the heart of what we do. By specialising in antique and vintage items, we celebrate craftsmanship from earlier generations while giving beautiful objects a new life.
