First World War 1914–15 Star

First World War 1914–15 Star Private L. A. Dumbrill – 6th Battalion, London Regiment (London Rifles). This original 1914–15 Star is officially impressed to Private L. A. Dumbrill, service number 2967, who served with the 6th Battalion London Regiment, better known as the London Rifles. The 1914–15 Star was awarded to British and Imperial servicemen who saw active service overseas between 5 August 1914 and 31 December 1915, excluding those who qualified for the earlier 1914 Star. Its presence confirms that Private Dumbrill served outside the United Kingdom during the early and formative period of the war. The London Rifles were a well-regarded Territorial Force unit drawn largely from London volunteers. The battalion served in several major theatres of the conflict, including Gallipoli, the Sinai–Palestine campaign, and later on the Western Front, making medals to this unit particularly sought after by collectors. The medal is struck in bronze (often mistakenly described as copper) and remains one of the key campaign awards of the First World War. It was typically issued alongside the British War Medal and Victory Medal, and examples surviving as single medals often indicate separation from an original group. A historically grounded piece connected to an identifiable London infantryman, this medal represents early-war overseas service and a regiment with a strong volunteer tradition.
