Pig Tusk, Papua New Guinea c.1970
$250.00
Pig tusks have long been used in personal adornment in Papua New Guinea, where pigs traditionally held considerable social and ceremonial importance. Dating to around 1970, this necklace has a natural pig tusk approximately 9cm long suspended from a simple leather cord. The natural shape and surface of the tusk give the piece plenty of character and reflect the use of locally available materials in traditional jewellery.
