Satsuma jewellery became popular in the West during the Meiji period, admired for its finely painted Japanese scenes and intricate detail. Dating to around 1900, this large Satsuma brooch bears the distinctive Shimazu family crest, commonly associated with Satsuma ware. It is 5cm in diameter and weighs a substantial 32.19g. The clasp has been replaced at some point, allowing the brooch to remain practical for wear.
