Mourning Brooch in Sterling c.1900

Mourning jewellery was often designed to keep a photograph, lock of hair or other small personal memento close to the wearer. Dating to around 1900, this symmetrical sterling silver brooch has a picture frame at the back with a plastic covering, as well as a concealed compartment behind the domed silver front. It has a simple hook fastening, is 31mm in diameter and weighs 7.6g. A beautifully restrained piece of personal mourning jewellery.
