Gingerbread clocks were popular in American homes during the late Victorian period, taking their name from the decorative carved wooden cases that resemble gingerbread trim. This example was made around 1900 by the Waterbury Clock Company of Connecticut, a well-established American clock manufacturer. It is 56.5cm high, with a base 38cm wide and 11.25cm deep, and includes its winding key.
