Papua New Guinea Fish Hook

Traditional Papua New Guinea fish hook made from shell, wood and feather. Fishing was an important part of life in many coastal and island communities, with hooks made by hand from locally available natural materials. This example came from a large lifetime collection of Papua New Guinea artefacts assembled by a dedicated collector with a long-standing interest in the region and its culture. We have many more pieces from the collection, including a wonderful group of masks, currently in store and coming to the website soon.
