Shell cameos were particularly popular during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with the quality of a piece often judged by the fineness of the carving, especially around the face and hair. Dating to around 1940, this gilt example has a finely carved female profile with delicate facial features and particularly well-detailed hair. It can be worn as either a brooch or pendant, is 41mm x 32mm and weighs 11.19g.
