Sterling Vesta Case Birmingham 1850

Vesta cases were small pocket containers designed to keep matches dry and protected, usually with a ribbed striking surface incorporated into the case. This sterling silver example is hallmarked Birmingham 1850, making it an early example of the form. It is engraved “LVW” on one side and is 38mm x 27mm x 9mm, weighing 12.37g. A compact piece of Victorian silver with a practical history.
